The Distance Between Us
In the hours between my life when it’s quiet and dark and my thoughts are safe I’m wondering where the people I have loved are in their lives.
For various reasons they are no longer in my life. Whether it is due to a gain of weight or a loss of title, the strain of a moment or the illusion of a prison. Others because of the distance of a mile or the barrel of a shotgun, a blow below the belt, or the permanence of death. The deepest scars of indiscretion or the pain of separation because of divorce, a loss, a diagnosis, an end.
We are always by ourselves. And yet we are nestled in a sea of souls riding the waves, sometimes the tidal waves and undertows, of life.
Is there a reason why we are in this sea together? Does experience create the bonds of love in the heart and mind and soul or can a simple mile of a day, a year, or death create the illusion of the distance between us. Authentic choices made in the sea of the soul emanate a peace, a love, a glimpse of what lies within us all. Reactions of fear based on the walls of ego project, though cannot create, the deception of fear and separation which is the cause of much pain and isolation for many people on this journey.
Do you allow ego in your life to separate you from another? Be it pride, or a check, a broken heart, or a word unsaid, an expectation of another or one that you failed to meet yourself. The lapse of health or the gain of wealth, the color of skin or the lack of sight. The choice to be with or without someone or the choice to become someone else.
What lies in your destiny may be the distance that bridges the gap between the fear of ego and the inner peace of the soul.
Choose consciously in each moment as there are consequences for every action, thought, word and deed. Your intentions, though silent, speak in volumes and may create or separate the walls of distance.
Go back to the sounds of darkness to find the light of peace within. And live your life from there…
